Priarch Alinan
“In a year, we’ll face the only opportunity life will ever grant us. We’ll fight despite our fear, despite our pain, despite the horror awaiting our failure. We’ll fight until no ounce of strength remains, and we’ll rise, or we’ll fall, because we have no choice.”

Biography
Brothers Are Born
Born in 32 BVE in The City of Praith, Alinan knew nothing of freedom for the first eighteen years of his life. At an early age, he formed a close bond with another Lanthian his age, named Kinaran. Knowing it was likely they had been sired by the same Priarch, their friendship quickly grew until they were inseparable, brothers.
Larger and stronger than most other males his age, Alinan frequently protected his brother. At the age of eleven, they were sent to labor in the mines beneath Praith for several days as a punishment for disobedience. Exhausted, Kinaran accidently knocked a basket of ore another boy was carrying to the ground, breaking the basket. Knowing they’d all be punished for breaking even a single basket, the group of boys began to beat Kinaran in retaliation. Alinan fought to defend his brother, though was overpowered by the group and savagely attacked. Never staying down, he continued to fight until a guard stopped the fight. She stated that each of them would be punished with two lashes from her whip for their disorderly behavior, though the boy that caused the fight would receive ten. Protecting his brother, Alinan lied, claiming he had started the fight, sparing Kinaran.
After a long recovery from his injuries, his back permanently scarred from the whip, Alinan was asked by his brother why he lied. Alinan stated that he’d always have his back.
A Tale of Two Lanthians
During his adolescence, Alinan discovered an abandoned section of a collapsed walkway beneath their slave pen. Utilizing it as a secret arena to practice for their trials of maturity, a trial in which all boys were forced to fight for the right to challenge The Priarch, he and Kinaran trained each night, honing their skills with wooden poles, the only weapons they’d be permitted to use during the trials.
Each year, during the annual trials of the older boys, Alinan watched Halian’s movements as he fought each victor, studying the man he hoped to rival one day.
A day after witnessing the trials of the young men a year older, knowing it would be their turn to fight next year, they snuck down to train upon their secret arena. During their duel, Kinaran confessed his fears. As only The Priarch had the right to breed, all slaves defeated during their trials were castrated, while the victory was permitted a chance to claim The Priarch title. Fearing mutilation, Kinaran admitted he didn’t want his bloodline to end, nor to go without knowing the pleasure of a woman before he was cut. Alinan reminded him of their advantage, for only they had trained for years. He believed there was no fairness nor justice in their lives, but for a single day, every man had the opportunity to rise and seize his freedom.
Over the next year, training every night, laboring in the mines, and serving the lusts of the population, Alinan focused on his desires. He craved the fate of being permitted to breed the female citizens, desiring to fill the incubation temple with his offspring. He knew he’d fight with every breath he had to rise, or he’d fall. He watched as Kinaran slowly grew fond of a mistress by the name of Nari, serving her often.
On the 49th of Iahta, 14 BVE, a day before their trials, the brothers served together atop the hanging gardens above Praith. They discussed the number of young men they’d have to fight, while Alinan confronted Kinaran’s doubts about their chances for victory with encouragement. When Kinaran was startled by a winged creature and nearly fell from their branch, Alinan saved him, pulling him back up. After Kinaran noted only one of them could be victorious, he questioned what would happen when they finally had to fight each other. Alinan merely stated they’d always be brothers, no matter what occurred.
The next day, their trials began. Fighting in duels, they were paired with other slaves their age over and over to determine the strongest. Each time a young man was defeated, he was castrated immediately, losing his wings. The victor of each duel was matched with another victor, repeating the cycle until the final two remained. Bleeding, bruised, wounded, the brothers fought the others relentlessly, using the advantage of their training to defeat the rest.
When only Alinan and Kinaran remained, they were forced to fight in a final duel. Though Kinaran feared castration, wanting more than anything to impregnate Nari, he saw the scars on Alinan’s back, remembering how his brother had protected him throughout his life. Deciding it was his chance to protect Alinan in return, he lowered his weapon when his brother was preparing to strike, accepting a blow to his head. Knocked to the floor, defeated, he accepted his fate.
Though Alinan was horrified that Kinaran had let him win, he could do nothing as his brother was castrated. Watching the mutilation, allowing his fury, his pain, his focus to fall on Priarch Halian, he fought relentlessly when the time came to challenge the older man for his title.
A decade older, the victor of his own trials, and having defeated every challenger that sought his throne each year, Halian brutally battered Alinan. Rising each time despite his agony and wound, stating he’d never stay down, Alinan broke through The Priarch’s defenses and defeated the man by braking his pole over the older man’s head.
Winning the title of Priarch, Alinan accepted the ceremonial dagger from the current Miarch, Enara, and cut Halian’s throat.
Permitted to recover from his wounds for several days, Alinan was brought before the throne for his ascension ritual. Free of his collar, the chains binding his wings, and his chastity cage, he accepted his place upon Praith’s throne as the new Priarch. Claiming her new mate, Miarch Enara allowed him to impregnate her while sitting on the throne before the crowds gathered around. He looked for Kinaran in the crowd, unable to breed her until he saw his brother watching. With a nod, Kinaran showed his approval, and Alinan spilled his seed inside the female ruler of their city.
Over the next few months, he served his duty to the population as the only potent male, breeding every woman that sought to conceive. Though subordinate to Miarch Enara, he convinced her whenever possible to improve the lives and living conditions of the slaves.
On the 11th of Thriduin, 13 BVE, he received a hastily scribbled message from Kinaran to meet him in a mistress’s dwelling. Arriving, he found his brother waiting with Nari, revealing she had offered to allow the brothers to meet in private in her home whenever they desired, knowing a Priarch could show no favoritism towards a single slave in public. She asked for a single favor, desiring to conceive a child.
Castrated, Kinaran revealed his approval. Though a mistress could never love a slave, he explained that Nari had been kind to him, and he wanted Alinan to help thank her by granting her desire. With his brother’s support, Alinan bred Nari while Kinaran watched.
After granting the mistress a child, Alinan thanked his brother for allowing him to win during the trials, revealing he likely wouldn’t have processed the heart to defeat Kinaran. His brother merely stated that he’d always have his back.
The Fall of Praith
After many decades of Alinan’s stable reign, Praith fell beneath the gaze of The Vaid Empire. On the 44th of Onis, 19 AVE, the human legion landed upon the shores of The Lanthian Empire. Learning of the invasion from his scouts, Alinan, tasked with defending the city as The Priarch, launched an ambush to slow the approaching advance. When the humans reached the city, settling a massive camp far below and to the north of Praith, the city prepared for a long siege.
The siege never came, however. In the early hours of the 15th of Twic, The Priarch and Miarch were alerted to the fact that a small group of human assassins had infiltrated the heart of the city, seizing the burial chamber of Praith’s greatest warriors, the most revered and sacred place in all of Praith. Left with no choice but to surrender, else permit the humans to vandalize and destroy the chamber, Miarch Evari, the third young Miarch to sit above Alinan’s throne during his long reign, ignored her Priarch’s protests and sent envoys to meet with the legion below.
Hours later, the Lanthian warriors were forced to hold back their blades as the legion climbed the gargantuan trees to flood into the city, and Alinan came face to face with the human God Emperor, Dominax The First of House Vaid. Carried upon his own throne made of stone, having been hauled by human slaves from the ground far below, The God Emperor met to discuss the surrender of Praith.
Though the human conqueror promised that no citizen of Praith would be harmed, for the population was now his, Alinan was unable to hold his tongue. Despite Evari’s commands to obey, Alinan stood and proclaimed his mistrust, for The God Emperor was a stranger, and his promises meant very little. After asking the Lanthian population to join him, to defend their city against their conqueror, he stood entirely alone, outnumbered.
Knowing his duty was to protect Praith and every citizen and slave, Alinan challenged The God Emperor to single combat, a duel to determine the fate of the city. Offering the city’s surrender upon his defeat, he demanded Dominax’s word that the legion would leave the city, unharmed, should he be victorious. Though never trusting his promise, he knew he had little choice.
Fighting with the experience of enduring decades of challengers, his body littered in old scars, much like his predecessor Halian, Alinan fought bravely against the otherworldly speed and strength of the strange human. Beaten, blooded, and brought to his knees, he continued to get up, never staying down, knowing he had a single chance to end the conquest of his city by killing The God Emperor.
Impressed by his commitment and determination, Dominax offered a place under his command, stating that he desired worth beings beneath his throne. Though The God Emperor claimed he’d name Alinan as Praith’s first High-Lord beneath The Vaid Empire, Alinan refused the offer, claiming he’d fight to defend his city until his last breath. When a wound cut deep across his forearm, he merely picked up his spear with his other hand, never surrendering.
Disappointed, The God Emperor lifted Alinan by the throat and poured electricity from his fingertips, sealing The Priarch’s fate.
Outmatched, alone, Alinan never surrendered to Praith’s conquerors. He fought bravely until his end, fighting to protect his people.
