Purebreds

The red skin of Cavaries allows them to blend in with the vibrantly colored vegetation of the of their homeland. Their nails, eyes, tongues, sexual organs, and the tips of their white hair glowed with bioluminescent blue light.

Their senses are more precise and sharper than any other humanoid species, allowing them to detect potential predators across vast distances. The bristled antennae growing from their foreheads and the tip of their tails are incredibly sensitive, sensing the smallest dangers in their environment. Their strange pupil-less eyes allow them to see in near total darkness.

History and Culture

Creation

The Cavari species was created by Dorian The Creator in 928 BVE, a full century after the formation of Ayphieal. After observing the progress of the six original humanoid species placed upon the continent of Magnius, Dorian returned to the first continent of Ayphieal with the hope of rectifying what he considered to be his greatest failure. The continent was overrun with his first creations, consisting of endless forms of monstrosities.

Hoping to tame the first continent, he created the Cavari species aboard his great flying vessel, The Chimira, by modifying the genomes of several specimens consisting of hybrids bred from the original six humanoid species. To ensure their survival among the horrid beasts infesting the vibrant jungles of the land, he granted them keen senses and an increased fertility to allow their population to grow swiftly.

Dorian placed the Cavari population upon a hill deep in the vibrant jungle, directly in the center of the first continent were The Holy City of Aslyd once stood.

Pre-Catastrophe

Left to survive, the first Cavaries struggled to survive. The huts they attempted to build atop the hill they had been placed upon were repeatedly destroyed during attacks from the abominations infesting the jungle. Many Cavaries abandoned the hill and ventured out into the jungle to survive on their own or in smaller groups. Those that remained continued to struggle for survival until Onaalag, a massive tentacled beast that was the first creation of The Creator who resided in a cave beneath the hill, used his abilities to touch the mind of a chosen Cavari, a man that would later be known as The First Knowledge Holder, to grant him knowledge that would help his people survive.

With the knowledge of Onaalag, whom they named The Great One, they began to build stronger defenses. Over many years, the collection of huts atop the hill slowly grew into a true city of black stone. Naming their city Aslyd, they began to worship The First Knowledge Holder as their ruler. They built a great wall around their city made of black stone, protecting all they built from the horrors of the jungle outside.

The Creator continued to visit the Cavaries once every decade to observe their growing civilization, merely hovering over the city in his flying vessel. He chose not to interfere with their development, offering no contact and remaining above them for only a short period each time he visited.

Onaalag continued to select succeeding Knowledge Holders after their first leader passed away. In return for the knowledge The Great One offered, the Cavari population granted him fertile women as sacrifices. After impregnating his ‘gifts’, women who were known as Holy Mothers, their bellies were cut open and the tentacled children inside them were burned, only to be replaced by another sacrifice. The warriors of Aslyd hunted down the scattered tribes of Cavaries that had ventured into the jungle long ago, killing their men and capturing their women as slaves and potential Holy Mothers.

In the year 768 BVE, during the reign of Knowledge Holder Mauron, a group of Cavari women were captured from the jungle and brought to Aslyd. Among them was a woman named Aifa, who was selected by Onaalag to be his next sacrifice. She was brought into his lair and impregnated.

Several months later, acting upon visions he had witnessed of a great catastrophe in which tentacled beasts consumed his people, Mauron secretly commanded a group of trusted warriors to murder Onaalag. Though The Great One was slain, Aifa escaped while pregnant with his tentacled offspring.

Over the following two years, Aifa continued the bloodline of The Great One by having his descendants impregnate other Cavari women, slowly spreading into a swarm of tentacled beasts. She led her horde of slimy abominations and returned to Aslyd, unleashing a massive siege on the 50th of Silla, 766 BVE.

In a single day, The Holy City of Aslyd fell. Swarmed by tentacled beasts, the vast majority of the male population was slaughtered in the attack, including Knowledge Holder Mauron himself. The female population was enslaved as breeding slaves, reduced to living wombs with the sole purpose of birthing more tentacled abominations.

After destroying Aslyd, Aifa became known as The Mother of Tentacles. She ruled over the ruins and what remained of the enslaved Cavari population for five years before she was betrayed by three of her tentacled children, Jynae-bal, Ayaalag, and Cycath, who claimed the ruins for themselves. Known as The Triumvirate, they continued to rule over the enslaved Cavaries.

On the 19th of Onis, 758 BVE, The Creator returned. Discovering the terrible fate of the Cavaries, he sought to save the rest of his world from the tentacle swarm. He used his power to rip the center of the deep jungle from Ayphieal and banish it into another new dimension, forever trapping the tentacled abominations and all remaining Cavaries in another realm separate from Ayphieal.

Post-Catastrophe

Having been torn from the world, the surviving Cavaries were locked away inside a new dimension of darkness. The ruins of Aslyd and what remained of the surrounding landscape were buried and consumed beneath generations of tentacled abominations breeding and spreading in the darkness.

For centuries, the Cavaries were kept as breeding stock under the rule of The Triumvirate. Aware that they would have no means of reproduction if the Cavaries died out completely, as the tentacled swarm required their wombs, a select few Cavari males were spared from death each generation to be used as studs, paired with selected females to continue their species. All other females were used as mindless wombs, kept bound while endlessly birthing tentacled abominations their entire lives.

The Cavari species survived, though only in the realm of darkness. Extinct on Ayphieal, the other inhabitants of The First Continent continued to spread legends and old tales about them, though the Cavaries themselves gradually faded into myth. In time, few believed they ever truly existed.
